Administration Rushes To MPT’s Rescuec
South Goa District Magistrate Prasanna Acharya, late Friday night issued orders prohibiting any hindrance or blockage to the entry of Mormugao Port’s channel on the seaside and the police have been asked to seek Indian Navy and Coast Guard’s help to remove any vessel violating the order.
While the order also directed the Indian Navy and Coast Guard to assist the police in this task, the cost of such removal of vessels will have to be paid by the owner of the violating vessel.
The order observes that rivers and water ways are the exclusive domain of the government and their blockades cannot be permitted.
The District Magistrate’s order came in the wake of a complain lodged by the Mormugao Port Trust which stated that around 100 fishing trawlers, 20 barges and around 45 motor boats had blocked the navigational channel to the port thereby paralyzing their operations and causing huge losses.
