Asian Games 2018: Indian women’s handball faces loss to Kazakhstan
The Indian women’s handball team began its Asian Games campaign with a loss, as it suffered a 19-36 defeat to Kazakhstan in their preliminary round match here on Tuesday.
Though, the Indian team gave a tough fight in the first period, trailing 13-19 but was outplayed 6-17 by its opponents in the second period of the Group A match.
The 18th Asian Games will start on August 18 in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia. But the handball tournament has started from August 13. On Monday the men’s team had to face defeat by 28-38 from the Chinese Taipei in the preliminary round of Group D.
India’s Rimpi scored eight goals from just nine shots while Maninder Kaur netted three. Nidhi Sharma and Ritu scored two goals each.
Indian women team has been placed in group A with China, Kazakhstan, South Korea and North Korea.
