BJP Goa Observer Smriti Irani does lip-service on Vasco Rape case

The new BJP Observer for Goa Smriti Irani, who has been vocal in her agitation on rape issues in New Delhi, has decided to now speak on the Vasco rape issue. She told the media recently that she would take up the issue with the Goa government on the case of the seven-year old girl raped inside the Deepvihar School – managed by Mormugao Port Trust (MPT).

This horrific incident of the seven-year old child rape happened around the time the Jan Sampark Yatra of the BJP took place in Goa, with the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and other state as well as national leaders visited different constituencies in the state.Irani happened to attend the rally, but at that time chose to remain silent. Interestingly, Irani attended the yatra on some days but fail to touch on this issue. In fact she, had even come to Goa to demand for support to the Delhi gang-rape issue.

“I will enquire about it and find out the status (of the case),” Irani said while responding to a question as to why the BJP government in the state failed to nab the culprit despite forming a special investigating team to crack the case.  She further added, “At least here the police and administration is responding well to these incidents,” Irani said.

So far the Goa Police-Crime Branch has failed to nab the rapist. The incident occurred on January 14 this year.
