Salgaonkars Skip Meet on River Princess Removal

Salgaonkar Mining Industries Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL), after raising the ante over the removal of River Princess skipped the crucial meeting of all the bidders that was held on Friday. However, the government is expected to decide on this matter on Saturday.
It may be recalled that when the government invited tenders to remove the grounded vessel, SMIPL offered to remove the vessel free of cost and even issued huge advertisements in the local newspapers over the issue.

Sharon’s Film Music Released

Radio Mirchi, Goa officially released the music of ShaMaz Films Tum Kitem Kortolo Aslo?  At a simple but crowded function held at Radio Mirchi conference room in Panjim on Friday.
The music for the film is composed by Balthazar Fernandes who worked as Assistant Music Director for Bollywood’s famous Kalyanji Anandji duo. He said the music for the film is based on Goan folksongs and has the distinct Goan style of singing in voices with backing of chorus. “There is melody and counter melody,” he said

There is much enthusiasm over the Dahi Handi celebrations every year and rightly so given the thrill of the game. A human pyramid to break the pot containing curds to pocket a fat purse as prize. It requires team work that calls upon trust and also agility. It is indeed a spectacle for the beholder and a test of grit and determination for the participant.
However, this year there was added enthusiasm to organize Dahi Handi competitions because sponsorships were just waiting to be handed over, the reason being the municipal elections scheduled to be held next month and aspiring candidates wanting to build up their vote base.

At its monthly literary meet held at T B Cunha hall recently,  “Ugtem Molob” paid rich tributes to the memories of Late Ravindra Kelekar Konkani litterateur and Jnanpith Award winner  .
Sahitya Akademi award winner , poet and freedom fighter Naguesh Karmali remembered the struggle of  Ravindrabab from 1963.  He said that Ravindrabab was always at the forefront of the Konkani movement and is considered the pioneer of modern Konkani movement.

Abducted Minor Girl Rescued, Booty Recovered

Acting swiftly on Wednesday afternoon Margao Police rescued a minor girl kidnapped for ransom and while arresting the abductor, also recovered the ransom paid to him.
A minor girl of a petrol pump owner from Margao was kidnapped and the girl’s mother was called from the child’s mobile phone with a demand of Rs. 20,000 ransom. Rape and death were the threats given to the frantic mother for failure to deliver the money.
Police came to know about the incident as the mother ran helter skelter to arrange the money. She however did not lodge a complaint with the police fearing the safety of her child.
