Cosme Biotech To Export Bio-Fertiliser

Goa’s Cosme Biotech Private Limited intends to export the Shubhodaya Vam bio-fertiliser, patented from The Energy and Research Institute (TERI) to the European, South African and Asian countries.

Cosme Farma Laboratories Limited Manager Wilfred Dias informed: “We have sent the samples to countries like Brazil, Australia, Turkey, South Africa and England where free trials of this bio-fertiliser are being taken.” He said that the patent which was procured from TERI has successfully been implemented in the farms of Karnataka, Goa and some parts of Maharashtra for last two years. “This will not wash off chemical fertilizers completely, but complement the farmers to replace them”, he added further.

Government Issues Show Cause To Two Casinos

The State Government has issued show cause notices on Tuesday to two casinos ‘Casino Royale’ owned by High Street Cruises and Entertainment Private Limited and ‘Arabian Sea King’ owned by Victor Hotels and Motels Limited even though the latter has already been moved from the Mandovi River. The show cause notice questions why no action should be taken against them in the absence of license from the Director General of Shipping. The operators of both these casinos have been asked to reply within seven days.

Government For Welfare Of The Society: CM

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat disbursed financial assistance of Rs 5.80 lakh to vegetable, flower and coconut vendors from Margao and its surrounding areas, after launching the construction work for nullah at Pajifond, Margao on Tuesday.
The financial aid was given to 116 beneficiaries under the scheme of the Social Welfare Department. Each beneficiary was given a cheque of Rs 5000.

1000 Smiles Of Goa Underway

Tourism Minister Nilkhant Halarnkar inaugurated 1000 Smiles of Goa, an unique exhibition of portraits at the art gallery of Maquinez Palace, Panjim on Tuesday. The exhibition has been organized by CMYK Academy of Photography along with its students, Goa Police PRO Atmaram Deshpande and Magnum Ad Events.
Speaking on the occasion, Halarnkar complemented the organizers for their efforts to make this unique project successful and capturing the smiling faces of Goa. He wished them all the success.

Monti Dongor Erupts Yet Again

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said he has asked police to crack down on anti-social elements at Monti Dongor Margao after violence erupted in this migrant dominated area of the town which is the stronghold of the Chief Minister.
Monti Dongor has been simmering with tension since the municipal elections as there was a virtual divide between Digambar Kamat’s supporters with one group standing by his cousin Laxmikant Kamat and the other group by the Congress worker Iqbal.
Trouble broke out on Tuesday evening after a 10-member group led by Bashir – a close confidant of the chief minister – attacked Maqbool as he was driving a bus. The gang travelling in a Tata Sumo jeep waylaid the bus and attacked Maqbool with iron rods and dhandas. Even passengers were not spared.

Onions to Cost Rs. 25 per Kg.

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat announced that onions will now be sold at Rs 25 per kg through the Goa Horticulture Corporation outlets as against the prevailing price of Rs 35 per kg.
Sankalp Amonkar, Chairman of Goa State Horticulture Corporation said that since the wholesale prices of onions have gone down after the all time high of last week, it was now possible to further reduce the price of this key ingredient of Goan cuisine.

Eco-Tourism To Benefit Hoteliers: NGO

Eco-tourism concept as mentioned in the Goa Regional Plan 2021 is only a means to help hoteliers and aimed at benefitting speculative investors, opined Yatish Naik, Convener of Pilerne Citizens Forum even as 35 NGOs that met in Panjim on Tuesday resolved to agitate against this provision.
The NGOs alleged that the whole process of sending the Regional Plan to villages was a mere farce as the authorities have gone ahead and done whatever they wanted even ignoring the recommendations of the gram sabhas.

Goa Ideal Tourist Destination For Japanese

After years of looking west, Goa Tourism has now sets its sights firmly on the east. A state delegation led by Tourism Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar and Director of Tourism Swapnil Naik recently made a promotional trip to Japan where they showcased Goa as an ideal destination to the urban Japanese tourists.
“Our aim is to attract tourists from Japan, however the main focus will be on young travellers”, said Swapnil Naik adding, “there has been keen interest expressed by the travel and trade fraternity in Japan on adding Goa to the travel itinerary of Japanese travellers. We, in association with India Tourism, will be organizing a familiarization trip for a delegation of the best travel agents from Japan, to better acquaint them with the offerings of our state.”
Japan has already been granted a visa-on-arrival facility by the Indian government, and Goa is looking to tap into this opportunity.

About 500 Artists To Participate in Lokotsav-2011

Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa will host the 12th Lokotsav — the yearly folk festival from 4th to 13th January 2011 at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy, Panjim. In all, 200 folk artists from states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam, Manipur, Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Goa will present folk dances of their respective states and 300 craftsmen will display their handicraft items.
Goan artists will present various Goan folk forms like Jagor, Ranmale, Kalshi Nritya, Ghode Modni, Koli dance etc. Rajasthani artists will perform Mangniyar, Chari, Bahurupia, Puppetiers, folk dances and music. The Bihu dance will be performed by artists from Assam. Artists from Gujarat will present Mewasi and Siddhi Dhamal. Besides, Maniouri artists will perform Manipuri Ras, Punjabis will perform Bhangda and Maharashtraians will present Lawani. This year, Kummi Kolattam of Tamilnadu, Badhai/Norta of Madhya Pradesh and Gotipua of Orissa will be added attractions during the festival.
