Cong For Early Polls?

It has now become pretty evident that the Congress Party in Goa is preparing for an early assembly polls, which they want to have before the panchayat elections which are due to be held in March 2012.

A consensus amongst the Congress legislators is emerging that the Assembly be dissolved by this yearend so that polls are held by February-March 2012.

In fact, Deputy Speaker Mauvin Godinho who has been appointed campaign manager for the party in Goa, admitted to the emerging consensus amongst the legislators.

The Congress with 20 MLAs is running a coalition government in Goa with the support of the Nationalist Congress Party and the Maharashtrwadi Gomantak Party both of whom have been murmuring against it in recent times.

The MGP has in fact even begun a dialogue with the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party for a pre-poll alliance at the next elections, while the NCP has been threatening to go it all alone at the next elections which appears a rarity given the fact that the Congress and NCP have a national alliance.
