Cuncolim Cop Extortionist?
Deputy Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar has directed Police Inspector Nelson Albuquerque to investigate the conduct of one of the Police Sub-Inspector at Cuncolim Police Station following complaint of the official seeking to extort money.
The concerned PSI who is apparently investigating the case of drowning of two youngsters at Cabo de Rama on Saturday reportedly demanded money from one of the survivors.
It may be recalled that a group of youngsters had gone for a picnic to Cabo de Rama when tragedy struck and two of them were drawn into the sea. While one body was recovered the same day, the other was recovered on Sunday.
The Police Sub Inspector reportedly summoned one of the survivors to record his statement and demanded money from him and threatened that if he did not pay the money, he would be implicated in the case of the death of his colleague.
As soon as the survivor called his mother about the police official’s demand, she rushed to Umesh Gaonkar and complained about the officer’s behavior, following which Gaonkar ordered the enquiry.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the same officer had collected money in a similar manner from another group that was a victim of a similar tragedy last year.
Reliable sources state that the officer was also known to extort money from people at the coastal police station where he was posted earlier.
