Dr Oscar Rebello Leaves GBA
Former Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA) convenor Oscar Rebello has resigned from the organization.
Dr. Oscar Rebello, who was the face of GBA when it launched an agitation against Regional Plan 2011, confirmed that he had resigned from the organization but declined to comment on the reasons behind his decision.
Last year he had quit as convenor of GBA. However, he had continued to serve as a core committee member. Sabina Martins, convenor of GBA, confirmed that she had received Rebello’s resignation letter, but was quick to add that the resignation had not been accepted.
In fact, she personally met Rebello and persuaded him to withdraw his resignation. “I have requested Oscar to reconsider his decision,” she said. “I have full faith in his integrity and in that of all our members, she further asserted.
The GBA’s executive committee discussed Rebello’s decision to resign. Martins lamented that conscious efforts are being made by certain quarters to weaken GBA as its activities have rattled many a builder and land shark.
Martins said the resignation letter would be placed before the core committee of GBA which will meet on Friday. The meeting was scheduled to take place earlier mainly to decide on the new structure of the organization.
Though Rebello refused to divulge the reasons for wishing to resign from GBA, sources said he was very disturbed by bad-mouthing that was being indulged in by certain people who wanted to give the organization a bad name and also by an article published in the media recently that cast aspersions on his integrity.
