Goa government keeps mining out of CBI jurisdiction

In a bid to not draw investigation agencies focus on the rampant illegal mining in Goa estimated to be over Rs 10,000 crore, the government of Goa had deliberately and scrupulously kept the State Mining Department under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, out of the jurisdiction of the CBI.

Speaking to, Opposition Leader, Manohar Parrikar, expressed utter shock when during his meeting last week with CBI officials at the Centre he learnt that CBI could investigate into matters of the state mining department because the Goa government had kept mining out of the jurisdiction of the CBI.

Parrikar further added that BJP would be submitting its own investigation reports next week and will submit the names of the mining companies and politicians involved to the CBI.

With Shah Commission recommending an interim ban in its report on exports of iron-ore and indicating that illegal mining has been rampant and uncontrolled; it is left to be seen whether the government at the Centre will take any corrective steps against the politicians involved in this huge mining scam.
