Goa govt to investigate Goa Foundation funding
State government has agreed to the demand of its legislators to investigate into funding of green NGO – Goa Foundation which was instrumental in stopping the mining industry which was facing allegations of illegalities.
The NGO has currently filed special leave petiton before the supreme court challenging state government’s act of renewing the mining leases.
The MLAs in the state were upset over NGO trying to stall the resumption of mining activity and had petitioned chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar demanding probe into the finances of the NGO.
“If the MLAs want me to conduct the inquiry, I will conduct. The MLAs have raised issue and I will look into it,” Parsekar told media persons after holding meetings with BJP legislators.
Earlier, BJP Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral said that the act of Goa foundation is totally anti national. “On request of my people I requested CM to conduct inquiry into funding of Goa foundation,” he said the
State government in its affidavit before the Apex Court has accused the foundation of ulterior motive and working against State interest stalling the economy and progress in the name of illegality.
