Goa MP makes demand to grant ST status to Goa’s Dhangar community
In the Lok Sabha today during the Matter of Urgent Public Importance, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar demanded that the Dhangar community of Goa to be included in the Schedule Tribe list under the Constitution of India.
Sawaikar, took to Twitter to confirm the demand placed in the Lok Sabha.
The Gomantak Dhangar Samajonnati had last year made a plea before the government of India to accord them the status of tribals and ensure that they be included in the Schedule under 342 of the Indian Constitution.
The Dhangar community in Goa are the indigenous tribe people who live below the poverty line and find it difficult to make end meet.
