Goa Shiv Sena Committee Dissolved On Extortion Issue
As a fall out of the extortion case which created ripples across Goa, the state Shiv Sena executive committee was dissolved with immediate effect. Umesh Salgaokar the Shiv Sena office bearer who was caught on CCTV camera while taking the extortion money has been expelled from the party. Ex Shiv Sena Chief and President of the Marathi Rajyabhasha Prasthapan Samiti Ramesh Naik has been appointed as the chief of the newly constituted ad-hoc committee.
The extortion case came to light on Monday when the chartered accountant of Neo Majestic Hotel, Porvorim filed an extortion complaint against Shiv Sena chief Upendra Gaonkar and his deputy Umesh Salgaonkar with Porvorim police.
The Shiv Sena Office bearers who had initially demanded an extortion amount of Rs 25 lakh ‘if the hotel wanted peace’, reduced it to Rs 3 lakh after bargaining. Umesh Salgaokar, Umesh Gaokar’s Deputy went to the hotel and accepted Rs 50,000 as an initial installment of the extortion money they had demanded, informed Porvorim Police. The hotel authorities captured the discussion on CCTV and handed it over to Porvorim Police.
After this, Shiv Sena chief in Goa and his deputy were arrested on Tuesday night. They were later released on Bail on Wednesday evening. They have, however, been asked to report to Porvorim police station for a week between 10am and 1pm.
