The Opposition stalled the proceedings of the Goa Legislative Assembly for the second day on Wednesday not allowing the Speaker to call out the Question Hour. As pandemonium reigned in the House, Speaker Pratapsing Rane adjourned the House for the afternoon hence no business was conducted in the morning session.
The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has said that it will not allow the House to function until Education Minister Babush Monserrate is dropped from the council of ministers following his detention in Mumbai while attempting to carry excess foreign currency.
The Speaker urged the opposition to let the Question Hour be conducted and the issue could be taken up for discussion during Zero Hour. He also argued that the entire government should not be held to ransom due to the acts on one individual. However, the opposition stuck to its guns that the House cannot afford to have a minister violating the laws of the land.
Meanwhile, there was speculation in a section of the media that a group of Congress legislators led by PWD Minister Churchill Alemao has decided to stick by Babush. However, Churchill dismissed these stories saying that he would prefer the law taking its own course.
