Calangute Police in North Goa have arrest a 32-year-old man and his wife for cheating one manager of a guest house owned by film actress Meghna Naidu in Candolim.
According to Calangute Police Station In-charge Police Inspector Jiva Dalvi, an offence was registered section 420 R/W34 IPC on February 26, 2018, based on a complaint lodged by caretaker of guest house, Suhasini Raut, resident of Orda, Candolim Police.
The couple Princeraj Chaviraj (32), native of Worli, Mumbai, along with his wife Sharmil Dalal (31) had duped the guest house caretaker to a tune of Rs 60,000 on the pretext of providing jobs to her children and also taken money from time to time while their stay. Later it came to light that the total amount of money which the complainant was cheated of was around Rs 1.25 lakh.
Since the registration of the offence, the couple were on the run and not traceable. However Calangute Police had circulated the information and photos to all police stations and had launched a search for the accused couple.
On March 13, 2018, in the morning police tasted success as Mr Dalvi received information about the accused persons being in South Goa. A team consisting of PSI Mahesh Naik who along with other staff successfully traced the accused couple in a hotel at Majorda and immediately arrested them.
The accused were produced for remand on Tuesday and police obtained four days police custody for the accused couple.
Dalvi further informed that they were verifying whether the couple was involved in any other cheating means and had requested to the public to report about any similar cheating incident to the concerned local police station.
