Micky permitted to travel abroad
Even though it is the monsoon season, the sun apparently is shining upon beleaguered former tourism minister Francisco alias Micky Pacheco who was today permitted by the court to travel outside the country whereby he has got back possession of his passport that was seized by the police.
It may be recalled that Micky Pacheco dominated the headlines of the media in Goa following the death of his friend Nadia Torrado in what many termed as a media circus. Micky Pacheco went up to the Supreme Court to secure anticipatory bail and as he did not receive any reprieve in the courts had to spend a number of days in police lock-up.
The police in the course of their investigations had taken custody of Micky’s passport while also freezing his bank accounts. The state had justified this action on grounds that Micky Pacheco was absconding for nearly month after appearing before the Crime Branch for a marathon interrogation that lasted over seven hours.
Finally, after going through much, he got bail and a couple of days back the courts ruled in favour of his application against the police action of freezing his bank accounts.
However, this evening Micky Pacheco got another shot in his arm and much needed reprieve when the Additional Sessions Judge Desmond D’Costa granted him permission to travel to the United States of America between 15th August to 30th August. This means that the police will have to return his passport. However, Micky Pacheco has been asked to surrender his passport to the police upon his return to Goa and also produce his tickets – to and fro – before the court.
Micky Pacheco has been booked by the Goa police for abetment of suicide and also culpable homicide with regards to the death of his friend Nadia Torrado.
