Missionaries of Charity Case: BJP hits back at Ranchi Bishop’s ‘Clean Chit’ statements
A day after Secretary General of Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) Theodore Mascarenhas gave clean chit to Missionaries of Charity over sale of babies, the BJP today hit back at the Bishop stating that his statement was ill-timed and was aimed at influencing the probe.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, party spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said his party condemned the clean chit given to Missionaries of Charity and said the entire issue was being probed by the police therefore it appears that the father had spoken to the press just to influence the police investigation.
He said, the government was already conducting a probe over the issue and also an FIR has been registered.
He said, Bishop is a religious head and should stick to his work of religious activities as laid down in the constitutions but instead he chose to come to Ranchi and make political statements that the state government wanted to create a conflict between Sarna followers and missionaries.
Pratul demanded that since this incident has opened a can of crimes committed by the missionaries and institutions affiliated to them therefore the state government should order a probe by over the matter.
