NH Land Acquisition Deferred
The State government has kept “on hold” the land acquisition process for widening the National Highway 17 and National Highway 4-A till the issue of their alignment is resolved.
While the ‘right of way’ width for the Highways has been kept at 45 metres, in thickly populated areas it has been reduced to 35 metres.
The decision is a result of the Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira’s letter to the Chief Minister and Revenue Minister asking that the land acquisition process be kept in abeyance till the Environment Impact Assessment of the project was done.
Incidentally, while the Goa State Pollution Control Board held two public consultations in January this year with regards to the widening of NH 4-A, it is yet to start this process for NH-17
