Prostitution racket busted in Calangute
Calangute Police in North Goa busted a prostitution racket by arresting one pimp and rescuing a victim.
Calangute Police Station Incharge Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi told UNI on Thursday a reliable information was received from a source that one pimp was supplying girls for the purpose of prostitution in Candolim area.
A team comprising police personnel and member of Savera, an NGO, was formed a team to raid the place. Police camped at Candolim and laid a trap and planted a dummy customer and secured contact with the pimp.
When the accused pimp arrived at the apartment, the dummy customer was directed to approach the pimp. While the deal was materialising, police immediately rounded the room and detained the pimp.
The accused pimp was identified as Aniket Sarkar (27), son of Rafikul Sarkar, resident of Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal.
Police also rescued one victim girl, native of Gujarat, who was kept in the apartment for delivering to the customer. The victim was lodged in Protective Home, Merces – Goa for safe custody and protection after obtaining order from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Bardez-Goa.
The raid went on from 2100 hrs to 2300 hrs. During the raid, police attached cash of Rs 20,000 and two mobiles along with other articles. Mr Dalvi informed that they had sealed the apartment used for the prostitution activity and they were going to summon the owner of the apartment for the purpose of investigation.
The raiding team was led by Dalvi and consisted of PSI Vidyesh Pilgaokar, PSI Sitaram Malik, Police Constables Vidyanand Amonkar, Sameer Sawant, Yogesh Bordekar, Nilesh Mandrekar and lady constables Deepa Gaurav and Supriya Mayekar.
An offence under section 370 IPC and Section 3, 4, 5 and 7 of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act was registered and further investigation was underway under the supervision of SDPO Porvorim Kiran Poduwal and SP North Umesh Gaonkar.
