Rahul Gandhi to lead candle-light march against UP and J & K rape cases
Congress President Rahul Gandhi will lead a candle light march, to be held at around midnight on Thursday here against the Narendra Modi-led Central government, in protest against the two rape incidents, which happened in BJP-ruled states of Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Gandhi, along with AICC Delhi unit President Ajay Maken, will take out the candle light march at India Gate, sources said here. Party workers and activists will participate in the protest, sources added.
Earlier in the day, Gandhi had taken to Twitter to condemn the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a tweet, Rahul said, ”how can anyone protect the culprits of such evil? What happened to Asifa at Kathua is a crime against humanity. It cannot go unpunished.
What have we become if we allow politics to interfere with such unimaginable brutality perpetrated on an innocent child?,” he wondered. The agitation follows the brutal rape and murder of eight-year-old girl Asifa in Kathua and murder of the father of a girl, who was raped by a BJP MLA in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh.
