Resigned Haryana Minister’s Casino Business Links in Goa

Gopal Goyal Kanda, former Haryana minister of state, urban local bodies, who resigned from the Haryana Government after Geetika Sharma, former employee of the defunct MDLR airlines who committed suicide alleged that she was harassed by its owner (Kanda), has a Goa connection with his company’s unsuccessful attempt to bask in the glory of booming casino business here.

After failing to run the inland casino in a hotel at Arpora, Kanda’s MDLR and its sister concern Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd has been trying to operate an offshore casino business which they had purchased from Leela hotels.

Casino Rio, mounted on a ship and currently anchored in Mandovi River near Panaji, was purchased from Leela Beach Resort in July 2009 and since then remains closed due to lack of documents for lack of required licenses and clearances.

Kanda’s MDLR ventured into casino business in the year 2009. As per government records, MDLR group in February 2009 took over the management of casino at Reveira De Goa Resort. But the contract with the hotel management was terminated on November 01, 2009.

Geetika Sharma was employed at the company’s casino operations in Goa in 2009.
