Take Permission Before Implementing Dress Code: ASI To Church
The ASI said that as the structure is under their control and is being maintained by them, the church should take permission from Director General, New Delhi before implementing the dress code.
Pointing out that ASI should only look after the maintenance of the Church, the Rector of the Church Fr Savio Barretto said that ASI has should not interfere in the sanctity of the Church.
Fr Barretto said that Church authorities had decided to impose strict dress code for the visitors and pilgrims visiting this monument from September 2011, after several parishioners complained of the improperly dressed visitors. Authorities had decided to give shawls to the pilgrims, who arrive indecently dressed.
Superintending Archeologist, Goa Circle, V Shivanand Rao had said that ASI DG New Delhi is the authority to provide dress code for the tourists and ban photography inside the Basilica and suggested that Rector should write to DG through Archbishop for granting the permission to implement the dress code.
