Twenty-Nine AMVIs post scrapped

The government has ordered the scrapping of the twenty-nine posts of Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors (AMVI) in the Directorate of Transport (DoT) and is learnt to have directed filing of criminal complaints against these AMVIs under probation for submitting false certificates and documents.

The government directives came following the investigations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Vigilance Department and termination of one of the AMVI for producing false information and fabricated documents to gain a job in the DoT.

The ACB of Vigilance Department had also approved filing of F.I.R under different sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act against the dismissed AMVI and others – garage owners who issued certificates and transport department officials.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stated that he has already ordered scrapping of the 29 posts of AMVIs and to issue show-cause notice to the officials asking them whether the followed proper procedures and verified all documents, while recruiting AMVIs.
