UID Enrollment Launched
The UID for enrollment in Goa was earlier launched by Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Sachin Pilot through video conferencing at Margao Post Office.
The Chief Minister said Aadhar, which is a Project of Government of India, is a full proof system which aims at ensuring safety and security of the people by giving them a unique identity and number. The UID Authority of India (UIDAI) is headed by eminent personality Nandan Nilekani, he informed.
Kamat, who inaugurated the Margao Head Post Office modernized under project Arrow said that the UPA Government headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has launched this project on a fast track basis and Goa being a small state can set the best trend for other states with cent percent coverage.
He further informed that Sachin Pilot while interacting with him through video link has assured to upgrade sixteen more post offices in Goa. He also assured to work out a scheme for the benefit of those using internet through BSNL.
Chief Post Master General Maharashtra and Goa Faizul Rehman said that the Margao Post office which has been renovated at a cost of Rs.20.98 lakhs is equipped with ultra modern technology and further added that efforts will be made to computerize all post offices in the country by March 2012.
The Postal Department has identified 21 post offices in Goa as enrollment stations. The Department of Posts will provide ATM facility at 1000 post offices in the country and in Goa, Panjim and Margao head post office have been identified for this purpose.
