Woman dies at Miramar after being hit by speeding car
A 36-year-old woman lost her life after she was hit by a speeding car on the Miramar-Caranzalem highway on Sunday evening.
According to the police, Shamim Bano was walking by the roadside when a Maruti Swift hit her, killing her on the spot.
Witnesses said that there were four youth in the car at the time of the accident. Three of them ran away after the incident leaving the driver, Milroy Rodrigues, 22, inside the car and in an unconscious state.
Witnesses also said that the car was being driven rashly when it hit the woman, and then rammed into an electricity pole.
Rodrigues was trapped inside the car, and passers-by brought him out and handed him over to the 108 ambulance service. The incident occurred at 6pm. Witnesses at the site alleged that the cops arrived at 6.45pm.
Later, Rodrigues was placed under arrest for rash, negligent driving causing the death of a person. He is currently in police custody, while the autopsy report of Bano is awaited. PSI Baban Powar is investigating the case.
