Youth Congress President Pratima Kept Out of ‘Line-Up’ to meet Sonia Gandhi
In what is getting to be unprecedented and reeks off deliberate attack on the Goa Youth Congress President Pratima Coutinho by powerful political lobbies in the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, every organization head of the Congress party in Goa including office-bearers were a part of the line-up to greet All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi; however, GPYC president did not find a mention in that list. And what is even shocking is that NSUI which is Congress organization under the GPYC has its president on the ‘line-up’ list.
When GoaChronicle.com spoke to Coutinho on this issue, she said, “there must have been an error and I am sure the senior leaders are aware of this error. I am here to work for the party and such small issues do not merit any controversy.”
On insistence of two senior congress leaders, Coutinho got an opportunity to meet, Ms Gandhi even though her name was not on the list.
However, senior politicians in the know, feel that Coutinho was deliberately made to face this humiliation in the light of the fact that her spouse Savio Coutinho is contesting this election against the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on a Trinamool Congress ticket and is proving to be quite a disturbance to the Congressman’s chances. Moreover, it appears to be a concentrated effort to sideline Coutinho and expect her to make a hasty decision to leave the party in much the same way as Vijai Sardesai, who was denied a ticket even though the party’s own reports say that he was a winnable candidate in Fatorda.
While Sardesai has paid the price for his stance on ‘Family Raj’, Pratima can expect more such subtle attacks on account of winning the GPYC elections against a powerful political lobby within the Goa Congress.
