Thane: A total of 27 people, mostly women, have died due to an unconfirmed disease here in a span of three weeks, stated District Medical Officer Dr Manish Renge on Sunday.
Of the 27 fatalities in the age group of 40-45, ten are from Sahapur taluka while the remaining 17 were Murbad and its’ adjoining areas.
These deceased first contracted fever, then they started vomited blood a couple of times before dying, Dr Renge said, adding that these symptoms are similar to the Leptospirosis disease.
Four deaths were confirmed cases of Lepto but the cause of others is still under medical investigation, he said.
The worst affected is Sahapur’s Bapgaon village which has so far reported 10 deaths from its’a population of 3,000.
Zilla Parishad Health Committee Chairman Kundan Patil visited these villages accompanied with Dr Renge, and made provisions for health camps to stop the potential spread of another disease in these times of COVID
