Anantnag, Mar 15 (InsideKashmir) Four militants, including three from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and one from Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), were killed on Sunday in a brief encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched by security forces in this south Kashmir district.
A police official said that following specific information about presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint CASO early this morning at Dar Mohalla Watarigam area of Dialgam, Anantnag.
“All exit points were sealed and house-to-house searches was launched,” he said.
However, he said when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons. “The security forces retaliated, ensuing in a brief exchange of fire,” he said.
He said four militants were killed in the encounter. “The slain LeT militants have been identified as District commander Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat, Omar Ameen Bhat, both residents of Sopat Tangpora, Kulgam, and Sajad Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Tengbal Frisal,” the official said.
He said the fourth militant has been identified as Gulzar Ahmed Bhat, who was affiliated with proscribed outfit HM, a resident of Hirpora Tarigam, Kulgam.
He said two AK 47 rifles, two pistols, ammunition and other incriminating materials have been recovered from the site of encounter.
As per police records, Muzzafar had a history of terror crime cases since 2017. Bhat was involved in a case U/S 13, 18, 38, 39 ULAP Act of PS Kulgam while Sajad Ahmad was involved in a case U/S 13, 20 ULAP Act. Similarly, Omar was involved in 3 militant related cases
