As many as 315 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol were booked in Goa during a drive which was launched against drunken driving across the state on Friday night.
According to a statement on Saturday, on August 10, 2018, from 1900 hrs to 2300 hrs, a drive was launched against drunken driving across the state of Goa.
The joint drive was conducted by Goa Traffic Police and District Police at about 100 locations. The drive was personally monitored by Dr Muktesh Chander, DGP, Goa and Jaspal Singh, IGP, Goa.
In all the cases, vehicles and documents of the violators were seized and all the cases would be referred to appropriate court of law for prosecution.
In cases where excessive alcohol content of more than 200 mg/100 ml was found, the Police Inspector would personally appear before the court along with APP and would seek maximum punishment of imprisonment and suspension of license of the violators highlighting the gravity of the offence.
A tempo carrying 15 filled LPG cylinders was seized at Porvorim wherein the driver was found under the influence of alcohol. The police are seeking major punishment and cancellation of the license. They would also write to the concerned agency seeking appropriate action against the concerned LPG dealer.
In another case at Margao, a Mumbai-bound passenger bus driver was found under the influence of alcohol. There were 20 passengers already in the bus and another 16 were to board. A case was booked against the driver, the statement added.
