Last week from 16th October to 22nd October as many as 46 of the 91 samples tested positive for Chikungunya thereby taking the total number of these cases in the current calendar years to 532.
The highest number of cases last week were from Curchorem where eight tested positive followed by Aldona where seven tested positive and six were positive in Canacona.
The break up of other positive cases is: 4 each in Corlim and Mapusa, 3 from Sanquelim, 2 each from Ponda, Margao, Panjim and Valpoi and one each from Cortalim, Cansarvanem, Candolim, Colvale, Balli and Marcaim.
The vector for this disease breeds in domestic and peri-domestic situations and people are advised to clean the waters in their households and surroundings regularly.
Even as monsoons are coming to an end, the intermittent showers experienced in recent days provide ideal breeding grounds for the vector.
