50 per cent seats in NIT reserved exclusively only for Goans

The Government of India has decided to reserve 50 seats exclusively for Goan students in National Institute of Technology (NIT) based in Goa for the current academic year 2012-13.

Revealing this to the media, Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar said that till the academic year 2011-12, 50 per cent of the home state seats for Goa were reserved for Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra Nagar Haveli and Lakshwadeep and the rest of the seats were filled on an all India merit basis.

However, with this decision 50 per cent of the Home state seats will now become exclusively reserved for the state of Goa.

The NIT is functioning from its temporary campus located at the Goa Engineering College Campus from the academic year 2010-11.
