The State government has paid compensations to around 618 Mopa land owners whose land has been acquired for building the Mopa international airport, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
The MoCA minister was replying to a question tabled by Goa-based MP Shantaram Naik seeking details on the matter. Sinha stated that the rate at which the compensation is paid ranges from Rs 25 to Rs 80 per sq mtr and the total area acquired by Goa government for construction of airport is 78,41,730 sq mtrs.
The Minister further informed that the number of occupants/tenants entitled for compensation with respect to the land is 7869, and that, a total of 87 people have applied for enhanced compensation.
“Area marked for commercial utilization is 381 acres which is 18.2 % of the total project area,” the Union minister said.
