8 pc turnout till 1100 hrs in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 29 (GCCurrentAffairs) Tremendous enthusiasm was seen in Mumbaikars, as the island city registered an estimated 8 per cent turnout till 1100 hrs.

Seventy two Lok Sabha seats across nine states, including 17 seats in Maharashtra, are voting on Monday in the fourth phase of national elections.

The polling for six Lok Sabha seat are being held here.

The maximum city is witnessing a high profile contest in three of the six parliamentary constituencies.

Celebrities, including actor Priyanka Chopra, Congress candidate from Mumbai North and actor-turned politician Urmila Matondkar, actor Paresh Rawal and seasoned actors Rekha and Madhuri Dixit also came out early today for voting.

While in Mumbai North-Central, BJP’s Poonam Mahajan is contesting against Congress’ Priya Dutt, Urmila Matondkar has been fielded by the Congress against BJP lawmaker Gopal Shetty in Mumbai North.

Congress leader Milind Deora, who has received endorsement from industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Uday Kotak among others, is contesting from Mumbai South against Shiv Sena Sena’s sitting lawmaker Arvind Sawant.

In 2014, the Shiv Sena and the BJP combine had won all six seats in the city.

After casting her vote, Priyanka Chopra tweeted, “Every vote is a voice that counts,” and shared a picture of her inked finger.

Even, Madhuri Dixit who voted at polling booth in Juhu urged the citizens to “vote wisely”. “Voting is our right, let’s use it wisely! The future of our country is in our hands. Let’s do our duty and #VoteForIndia. (sic),” she tweeted.

Actor and rugby player Rahul Bose “returned from a shooting in Hyderabad” to cast his vote.

RBI Govorner Shaktikanta Das cast his vote at peddar Road. He said, “It is a very smooth process. Voted in Mumbai for first time after shifting from Delhi.”
