A healthy 83.08 per cent of the total 17,912 voters exercised their franchise on Monday at the by-elections for Valpoi Assembly constituency despite the cloudy weather and heavy rains at times.
While Murmure polling station in Guleli village recorded the highest turn out of 93.44 per cent, the lowest was at Government Primary School at Valpoi with only 64.37 per cent casting their votes.
The elections went on smoothly with no untoward incident reported in the constituency where a strong police force was present.
In an interesting development, a man believed to be dead walked in to vote and as his details tallied with the data with the election officials, he was permitted to vote. According to North Goa Collector Mir Vardhan, the incident came to light due to the Poll Monitor System introduced for the first time.
