In all 92 candidates will battle it out in the 30 wards of the Corporation of the City of Panjim to be elected as corporators at the elections that will be held on 13th March following the withdrawal of their nominations by 60 candidates on Friday which was the last date for doing so.
In 8 wards, it is a straight fight between the panels floated by Education Minister Babush Monserrate and Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar, while in 15 wards there will be a triangular contest. In the remaining wards, it is mixed picture with ward number II having the highest number of candidates as six are in the fray including two brothers contesting against each other.
The candidates reflect a cross section of the society including working women, businessman, professional and youngsters. Quite a number of the candidates are in the age group of late 20s and early 30s thereby indicating that the youth is rising to the challenges facing them and the society.
