AAP leaders gherao PWD officers; demand alternate water supply for Bardez

Panaji: AAP Goa Convener, Rahul Mhambre along with other AAP leaders gheraoed officials from the PWD on Thursday, regarding the water supply issue in the Bardez taluka.  Mhambre demanded alternative arrangements for the Bardez taluka until the water supply system was streamlined. AAP Goa Convener, Rahul Mhambre, AAP leader, Vignesh Apte, Sunil Signapurkar, Sandeep Pednekar and other leaders questioned the Executive Engineer from the WRD, Porvorim about the same and about the action plan but the Executive Engineer refused to give any answers and walked off from the office.

Earlier the PWD had issued a notice saying, “Due to shifting of pipeline along NH – 66 from Karaswada junction to Peddem, Mapusa; the Assonora water treatment plant will be closed for 48 hours from 8 a.m. on 4th December to 8 a.m. on 6th December.  There will be no water supply from 4 to 6 December to the entire Bardez taluka. There will be restricted water supply on 7 and 8 December”.

Mhambre said, “The water supply to the Bardez taluka is restricted for two days. People don’t have big tanks to store. Therefore, the PWD officials have to arrange tankers for them. Unfortunately, when we went to ask the same question to WRD official, he walked off and refused to give an answer”. He then questioned PWD minister, Deepak Pauskar and Pauskar assured that his department would arrange tankers for the Bardez taluka until the water supply system was streamlined.

Further, Mhambre and other AAP leaders gheraoed the Chief Engineer of PWD in Altinho. The chief engineer said, “There is a water shortage because we haven’t received water from WRD. The Assonora water treatment plant is dependent on the Tilari dam and currently, the Maharashtra government is busy constructing a bridge. Therefore, we have been not receiving the water”.

The chief engineer assured 10 tankers to Porvorim area and 7-8 tankers for Mapusa. He said, “We have only shut down the 1000 mm line but alternate lines will be open. The work will be completed within two days and people will get water the next day as mentioned in the notice”.
