Additional Solicitor General of India Vivek Tankha will represent Goa Governor Dr. S S Sidhu before the Bombay High Court at Goa on Monday as the Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam has resigned from office.
Tankha arrived in Goa on Sunday evening to prepare for the case wherein the Special Secretary to the Governor has challenged the order of Goa State Information Commission’s order holding the Governor’s office to be a public office.
The Raj Bhavan’s contention is that the Governor’s office is not a public authority and does not come within the purview of the Right to Information Act. Besides, it has also argued that the Goa State Information Commission has not been properly constituted.
The Goa State Information Commission’s order came in the appeal filed by Advocate Aires Rodrigues who was denied information under the RTI on grounds that the Governor’s office does not come within the purview of the RTI.
