Secretary for Women and Child Development D.C. Sahoo has asked the Non Governmental Organizations to play an important role in matters related to adoption of a child and its proper care, while speaking at the inauguration of a two-day state orientation programme on Adoption and Non-Institutional Care in Goa on Thursday. The programme is organized by the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Women and Child Development for representatives of NGO’s in Goa.
Sahoo said adoption is very easy but it is necessary to ensure that the child is adopted by capable parents who really need the child and added that adoption is not for any economic purpose and misuse.
Chairperson of the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Sameera Kaji stressed on the need to conduct motivational programmes to those willing to adopt a child. She added that programmes also need to be organized regularly to create awareness among the NGO’s.
Dr J Pati, Deputy Director of CARA while pointing out that CARA has conducted 30 such programmes this year, also revealed that an on line data base has also been introduced to bring about transparency on adoption and non-institutional care.
