GoaChronicle.com brings to its readers the details of the Association for Democratic Reforms and National Election Watch report on donations received by political parties across the country…
Political parties in India have received a startling Rs 4,662 crore through donation and others sources since 2004 with Congress leading the pack with an income of Rs 2,008 crore as per the ADR report, followed by BJP wit Rs 994 crore.
Replying on the IT returns and list of donors submitted to the Election Commission for the period 2004-2011, ADR and NEW released a report on the income of 23 major parties.
The income of other parties are NCP (Rs 160 crore), AIADMK (Rs 59 crore), SAD (Rs 25 crore), National Conference (Rs 21 crore), JD (U) (Rs 26 crore), TDP (Rs 53 crore), DMK (Rs 40 crore), Trinamool (Rs 9 crore), Shiv Sena (R 32 crore), LJP (Rs 4 crore).
Interestingly, several large donations have been made in cash, even though they were above Rs 20000.
From Goa the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Save Goa Front (SGF) which is currently merge into Congress never filed their contributions reports to the Election Commission of India (ECI) from Year 2004-2011. Strangely MGP was part of the ruling party in the Congress government and now BJP government; SGF however was only a part of the previous Congress government.
