Advocates Boycott of Courts Continues

The boycott of court proceedings by Advocates from South Goa continued for the second day on Friday with more courts being forced to merely give new dates to litigants appearing before it.
It may be recalled that advocates had boycotted the court proceedings and also marched through the streets protesting against the suspension of Additional Sessions Judge Desmond D’Costa who was facing an enquiry for expeditiously disposing a custodial criminal matter only because his action irked the principal sessions judge.

While on Thursday lawyers boycotted all the courts in Margao and some in Vasco, on Friday all the courts in Margao, Vasco, Quepem, Canacona, Sanguem, Ponda, Mapusa and even Pernem did not function as the advocates stayed away from them.
The legal fraternity is up in arms over the suspension particularly since Desmond D’Costa has earned a reputation for being fair and more importantly very efficient in his work and the lawyers have seen this action against him as unfair and uncalled for.
