Even though Assembly elections are a good one-and-a-year ahead, politicians have started the work in right earnest with a growing number of them staking their claims for certain assembly constituencies.
If Benaulim was in the news in recent times for political heavyweights staking their claim to it through their kith and kin, it is now the turn of Fatorda constituency to be in the limelight.
Goa Mahila Congress President Monica Dias is the latest to stake her claim for the Congress ticket for Fatorda constituency. She demanded the ticket at function organized by the Mahila Congress at Margao on Wednesday in the presence of All India Mahila Congress President Dr Prabha Thakur and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.
Monica staked her claim by virtue of being a senior party worker working at grass root level and also because of the loyalty she has displayed to the party even though she was denied the ticket at the last elections.
At the last general elections, Monica had demanded at least three tickets for women while the party nominated only one. “Money talks and bullshit works,” was her instantaneous reaction when she was denied the ticket last time. After sulking for a few days, she however got into the groove and canvassed extensively for the Congress candidates all over Goa.
Vijay Sardessai, the official Congress candidate at the last elections, after his defeat, has been nursing the Fatorda constituency quite diligently and is hoping to get the party ticket once again.
However, senior Congress leader and permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee, Luizinho Faleiro is also reported to be eyeing the Fatorda constituency which is tipped off to be reserved for the ST community.
