Patna, Oct 24 (GCCurrentAffairs) Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi led All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) today registered its maiden victory in Kishanganj assembly constituency by wresting the seat from Congress as AIMIM candidate Qamrul Hoda defeated BJP candidate by a margin of 10,204 votes to create history.
Congress candidate Sayeeda Bano bagged only 25,285 votes in the by election to Kishanganj constituency, once considered a stronghold of the party.
Mr Hoda`s victory from the seat is impressive in several senses as he not only stopped BJP`s attempt to make inroads into Muslim dominated Kishanganj constituency but also checkmated Congress candidate, Ms Bano, mother of Congress MP from Kishanganj Dr Javed Azad on the electoral chessboard. Mr Azad had represented Kishanganj assembly constituency twice by winning elections in 2010 and 2015 on Congress ticket.
Mr Hoda polled total 70,469 votes while BJP candidate Ms Singh had to satisfy with 60,265 votes.
As it is, by election to Kishanganj assembly constituency was necessitated following victory of incumbent Congress MLA Dr Azad to Lok Sabha in the last general election.
