Srinagar: Air traffic to and from Srinagar was affected on Saturday as several flights were cancelled due to the early morning snowfall in parts of Valley including this summer capital of J&K Kashmir.
Officials told that the snow accumulated on the runway of the airport and hampered the flight operations for the better half of the day. The snow clearance teams were pressed into service and they made the runway suitable for the flight operations late in the afternoon, they said. “After early snowfall, there was sunlight which allowed operation of the flights as there were no issues as regards the visibility,” the officials said. While 21 flights were cancelled, the officials said that only six arrived or departed from the airport.
The flight operation at Srinagar International Airport resumed on Thursday after four days of suspension due to heavy snowfall. Srinagar Airport witnessed highest passenger movement of approximately 11,000 on January 8, the official added.
