Aires Seeks HC Intervention To Clean Up Goa’s Judiciary

Judicial activist Aires Rodrigues has sought the intervention of Bombay High Court Chief Justice Mohit Shah to clean up the judiciary in Goa and rid it of malpractices, irregularities and corruption.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice, he lamented that no action has been taken against North Goa Principal District Judge Nutan Sardessai even though she heard cases in clear violation of judicial propriety.

He also demanded a probe to identify why no action has been taken against this particular judge and to find out whether she enjoys political patronage or benevolence of some judicial officer.
He also pointed out that despite the High Court’s direction to the Chief Secretary on 29th October 2010 to probe the professional misconduct of Advocate General of Goa Subodh Kantak, no action has been taken against Kantak till date.
He also cautioned the Chief Justice about Winnie Coutinho’s elevation as a High Court Judge by bringing to his attention her misconduct as a Public Prosecutor.
Aires also suggested setting up a panel to examine the competency of the lower court judges, many of who, he said were not only incompetent but also inappropriate.
