All 40 MLAs should resign: Wagh
Mining both legal and illegal mining had been first stopped by the Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar post the tabling of the Justice MB Shah Commission report in Parliament. However, Parrikar did allow already excavated ore lying in the jetties or mines to be transported. This led to the Union Minister for Environment Jayanthi Natarajan to suspend the environmental clearances accorded to the mines. Following Goa Foundation had filed a petition in the Supreme Court that called for a complete ban on mining activities in the state.
The government has been claiming that the state revenues have depleted due to mining closure crisis. Goa Mining People’s Front have been constantly putting forward their demand to restart mining in the state. Today’s meeting at Azad Maidan has seen support coming from all parties with the presence of both the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane.
