An all women’s show is planned by the Tiatr Academy of Goa to mark the 131st birth anniversary of Regina Fernandes, the first lady to step on the stage of Konkani tiatr. The function will be held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on 16th November from 10 am onwards.
Regina Fernandes acted in the tiatr titled Bhatkara written and directed by her husband Joao Agostinho Fernandes way back in 1904 when it was considered a taboo for women to act on stage.
The programme on 16th November will begin with a workshop on “Women’s role in art and culture” with Dr. Meenaxi Martins as the resource person.
The same afternoon at 3:30, a ‘ladies musical show’ is planned as a tribute to Regina Fernandes. Leading female artistes from the Konkani stage like Felcy, Rosy Alvares, Roma, Roshan, Bhushan, Fatima, Jessie, Clara, Sonia dias, Sonia de Santa Cruz, Aplonia, Chitra, Cinetra, Bhuska, Clarissa and Effie Fernandes will belt out songs while female comedians Joana, Janet, Rodolfin and Valencia will present skits.
The musical show is co-ordinated by Sharon Mazarello who will also compere the show along with Irene Cardozo while Antonette Mendes will be the chief guest.
