Amit Shah arrives in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 27 (GCCurrentAffairs) BJP National President Amit Shah arrived in Kerala on Saturday.

Mr Shah reached Kannur by a flight at 1030 hours to inaugurate party’s district office.

He will later reach Thiruvananathapuram by a helicoper and visit Sivagiri Mutt at Varkala, a major spiritual centre established by state’s renowned 20th century saint-social reformer Sree Narayana Guru.

Mr Shah will attend the ‘Navathi’ celebration of Guru’s Mahasamadhi at hillock mutt, located about 50 km from here.

The BJP President will inaugurate a ‘Maha Mandala’ Pooja on the occasion. SNDP General Secretary Vellappalli Natesan will chair the meeting and deliver a key note address.

The spiritual event will also be attended by BJP-led NDA leaders including BJP State President PS Sreedharan Pillai, BDJS leader Thushar Vellappally and BJP Rajya Sabha member V Muraleedharan.

Mr Shah’s visit was also in the wake of party’s agitation against the SC verdict allowing the entry for women of all ages into Lord Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala where entry is restricted to women between the ages of 10-50 as per centuries old custom.

Hundreds of party workers had injured in the lathicharge by police at Nilakkal and Pamba during the five-day opening of the temple for the previous monthly poojas.

About 2061 people were arrested in connection with the violence at Pathanamthitta, Nilakkal, Pamba and Sannidanam. As many as 452 cases have been registered so far. Search operation for another 1,000 is underway.

BJP leaders alleged an emergency like situation prevails in Kerala as police try to end the protest in blood-bath.

Police issued a look-out notice for 210 people allegedly involved in the violence.

Meanwhile, State BJP leaders said the party will issue their own lookout notice on a dozen police officials involved in deliberately attacking devotees.

The BJP leaders also questioned the veracity of the lookout notice issued by the police in which a police constable disguised as a devotee was involved in the violence.

Mr Shah will stay overnight in the Capital and leave on Sunday morning.
