And Now KRC Proposes Link Rail Between Chandor and Balli

Even as the protests against the proposed loop connecting South Western Railway with the Konkan Railway in Cansaulim is growing day by day, the Konkan Railway Corporation is now planning to have a similar link between Chandor and Balli.
KRC MD Bhanu P Tayal, briefing media persons revealed that the plans are ready for this new link between the Konkan Railway and South Western Railway and justified it on grounds that the Margao junction is getting over burdened when trains coming from Hubli and onwards have to proceed towards Chennai.
Presently the freight trains are halted on one line and the engine is detached and then attached on the rear side thereby losing substantial time and also blocking one entire track for that duration.
He also admitted that expansion plans in Goa are hit by strong opposition from environmental lobby and also resistance from the local government.
While stating that the project will commence only after two years as that is the period normally required to get the funds sanctioned, he said a loop would be created near the level crossing at San Jose Areal along the South Western Railways to join the Konkan Railway line near the road over bridge adjacent to the Margao-Quepem road.
Meanwhile, work on constructing a new station at Loliem has commenced and is likely to be completed within a year. He said once the station is completed it will help in passenger traffic as the congestion at Margao junction could be reduced.
