Port Blair: While Covid-19 patients in many states are grasping for Oxygen, the Director of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) has assured that at present oxygen cylinders are available in huge quantity and two Pvt. Gas filling agencies are also have a good quantity of oxygen to refill the empty cylinders.
The Director, ANIIMS, Dr. AK Mandal, informed media persons at Port Blair that the availability of oxygen is monitored in 3 to 4 levels.
“A contingency plan has also been devised wherein a ship has been kept on standby to bring full load of oxygen cylinders in emergency situation,” Dr. Mandal said.
He added that apart from this, the Administration has also planned for oxygen generator and another Oxygen Concentrator. “We are having enough oxygen concentrator,” he assured.
Apart from G.B Pant Hospital, a good quantity of Oxygen Concentrators has also been made available to the other two districts too to maintain the oxygen requirement, he said.
The Director further disclosed that the Administration has planned a huge quantity of Oxygen Generator Plant. Apart from the G. B Pant Hospital, Oxygen Generator Plant will be established in North & Middle Andaman District as well as Nicobar District, he said adding that these plants will generate huge capacity of oxygen.
According to highly placed sources presently Andaman and Nicobar Islands have two suppliers for Oxygen, one is Inox based in Mainland India while the second one is Uttam Gas, based in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Other than this, Defence forces in Andaman also has an Oxygen plant, it is reported.
According to sources presently Andaman has 1872 medium size Oxygen cylinder and 375 big oxygen cylinder and demand for more cylinders have already been placed.
As per the last update, there are 232 active COVID-19 cases in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Altogether 6181 people have been tested COVID-19 positive till now, out of which 5879 people have already recovered. 70 deaths have been reported so far in Andaman because of COVID-19.
At present 57 COVID-19 patients are on oxygen support at Port Blair’s G B Pant Hospital.
