Another CCP-like Case: 8 out of 11 Sancoale Panchayat Members go into hiding

Fearing that there could be manipulations by the government to the Election of the Sarpanch of Sancaole, eight Panch Members out of eleven who had dislodged the former Sarpanch Narayan Naik have gone into hiding and will come out during the time of the Sarpanch Election to be held on March 25th, 2013 as per the Order of the Director of Panchayat, Government of Goa.

The eight-member group currently underground had approached the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court, who on March 5, 2013 gave an Order, “In our view, since the petitioners are seeking direction, directing the Director to hold elections to the post of Sarpanch which is fallen vacant, without expressing any opinion on the merits of the meeting which has been held on January 1st, 2013 and in which No Confidence resolution, which was passed, we direct the Director to take steps to hold elections for the Post of Sarpanch, which is fallen vacant on account of No Confidence motion. The Director should accordingly follow the procedures within three weeks from today.”

Following the directions of the High Court,  the Director of Panchayat issued an Order to hold the election on March 25, 2013 at 10 am at the Office of the Village Panchayat of Sancaole. However, on the March 21st, 2013, the Assistant Director of Panchayat Jayant Tari suspended the resolution dated January 1st, 2013 adopted by the Village Panchayat of Sancaole.

One of the eight members, who did not want to be named stated that it is surprising that after the decision of the High Court and Order of the Director of Panchayat, we were surprised to see the Order of the Assitant Director, therefore, we have decided to go underground, so that no manipulations will be possible by the current government in the Sarpanch Elections.
