Two students from Ponda taluka, both having failed the IX standard examination attempted suicide and while one survived the other died.
16-year-old Jayshree Bheno Gaude from Gaunem hanged herself with a dupatta. She is believed to have taken this drastic step as she failed her IX standard examination for the second time.
In the other incident, a girl from Marcaim consumed petrol in a bid to end her life. However, she was rushed to Goa Medical College Hospital, Bambolim after examination at the Primary Health Centre. She too had failed her IX standard examination.
