The Tuberculosis Association of Goa is organizing Anti TB Week from 17th to 23rd February to commemorate the foundation day of Tuberculosis Association of India which was established on 23rd February.
The ‘Anti-TB Week’ will be organized in collaboration with various units of the Directorate of Health Services, Goa State TB Control Society/National TB Control Programme, Goa State AIDS Control Society, Goa Medical College, Indian Medical Association, Indian Red Cross Society, Rotary, Lions Clubs and other Voluntary Institutions to create awareness about Tuberculosis amongst general public.
Observance of this week is a major opportunity to defeat the TB epidemic at all levels by detecting at least 70 per cent of all TB cases and to take the required action to cure 85 per cent of those cases. It also assumes relevance given the fact that TB has made a resurgent comeback in Goa particularly amongst the HIV infected persons.
Honorary Secretary of the TB Association of Goa, Dr. Damodar Bhounsule has appealed to the medical authorities, para-medical authorities and others to intensify TB control activities during the ‘Anti-TB Week’. The necessary health education material on Tuberculosis is available for free distribution at the office of the TB Association of Goa in Panjim.
